In 1973, Hallmark introduced its first-ever collection of Christmas ornaments, which included twelve ornaments crafted from yarn. The 1973 yarn elf featured light green/yellow clothes and shoes, as well red yarn hair. Following up in 1974, Hallmark released an Elf Keepsake ornament distinguished by its orange hair and red/orange clothes.
As with all yarn ornaments from this era, slight variations in design or color are typical and stem from the production methods used at the manufacturing facilities. These differences enhance the uniqueness of each piece.
It's important to note that yarn ornaments were originally sold in clear plastic bags, not boxes. Unless otherwise specified, there is no guarantee that yarn ornaments will come in their original, sealed plastic bags.
