1975 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament

QX1631

This 1975 Hallmark Unbreakable Satin Ornament is an original, dated design, by Betsey Clark, and is part of the Tree-Trimmer Collection. One side of the ball features a tiny toddler girl, in blue and white pajamas, kneeling on a patchwork quilt with her little toes tucked under, and both hands pressed together in prayer. Her eyes are closed and she's encircled by a bunch of yellow stars, with white stars twinkling within the circular border.  The other side has the same star border framing the text, "CHRISTMAS 1975," with three larger stars above. The ornament is also dated along the edge of the plastic sleeve, which keeps the satin wrapping from fraying.

Betsey Clark (1915–1987), the American artist famous for her old-fashioned drawings of nature and waif-like children and nature, started working for Hallmark in 1962, and her greeting card illustrations were so beloved, Hallmark made their first series of  Keepsake Ornaments, in 1973, using her cottage-core art, which was then widely licensed and is now highly collectible.
