NOTE: This product code was also used by Hallmark for their 1980 metal ornament, "Santa Chime."
This 1975 Hallmark Christmas Ornament is a frosted glass ball with a silver cap and translucent, plastic sleeve, printed with a cartoon scene of two kids under the mistletoe. Part of the Tree-Trimmer Collection, this original, dated design depicts a little blonde girl with a ponytail, holding the hand of a little brunette boy, while they stand under a small branch of hanging mistletoe. We can only see them from the waist up and the background is a bright green rectangle, taking up one side of the ornament. He's got his head turned away and eyes closed, as he extends his arm and holds his sleeve up, as if to say, "You can only kiss my hand!" He's wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt and is clearly blushing, shyly. She's dressed in a white shirt with pink polka dots and has her eyes open, while staring at him and coyly planning her next move! The other side has a thin green wreath of mistletoe leaves, with a white ribbon bow on top. Within the center of the wreath is the sentiment, "Merry Christmas 1975" in green script, and the year with copyright is printed at the edge of the plastic wrap, also in green. The ornament is packaged in the original, clear plastic sleeve with metallic-gold cardboard endcaps.
The artist, Martha Arguello, aka Marty Links, was a American cartoonist, who's comic strips ran in various newspapers until 1979, when she decided to design cards for Hallmark, where she worked as an artist, until age 82.
Disclaimer: As with many older glass ball ornaments, it may have developed "age spots," which is normal with older ornaments.
