(2005)
The 2005 Keepsake year contains a clear beginning and a clear ending. Fairy Messengers opened with Poinsettia Fairy #1, turning a flower’s petals and color into the clothing and personality of a tiny figure. The annual idea had room to grow through new plants. At the same time, Carmelo Anthony, Hoop Stars #11 ended the numbered basketball run that began in 1995. One number created a future; the other closed a decade-long sequence.
Machines tell a broader history. the 1926 Murray Steelcraft Speedster, Kiddie Car Classics #12 preserves a child-powered ride-on, while the 1931 Laird Super Solution, Sky’s the Limit #9 records a full-size racing airplane. Wheels and streamlining appear in both, but the machines served different worlds of play and flight.
Other vehicle lines widened the range: a 1938 Chevrolet became Fire Brigade #3, a 1968 Pontiac Firebird became Classic American Cars #15, and a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado SS became All-American Trucks #11. Harley-Davidson appeared in regular and miniature forms. A Fire Brigade colorway reused a sculpt with planned alternate paint without moving the annual count.
Licensed entertainment used features and special formats beside those numbered histories. Darth Vader appeared with Magic, Disney marked fifty years of theme-park music, and Peanuts entered musical and skating scenes. The importance of 2005 lies in these opposite motions. New fantasy, a sports finale, historic machines, repaints, and electronic character scenes all occupied the same season. The exact number or format explains whether a piece starts a tradition, ends one, continues it, or branches sideways.
Series age also changes what a number means. A first issue asks viewers to learn a new visual rule, while an eleventh and final issue carries the memory of everything before it.
