This 2026 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament shows Charlie Brown and Snoopy, from the Peanuts Gang, trying to figure out how to get Charlie's red kite out of the Christmas tree it's wound itself around. Although it was not a Christmas tree, the original Charles M. Shulz Peanuts comic strip often featured the "kite-eating tree," which had a toothy grin and made a "CHOMP" sound when claiming it's red paper victims. This is definitely a fun and funny scene but there is also deep symbolism for fans, as the kite-eating tree was a focal point for the theme of futility vs. perseverance, much like the frequent scenes with Lucy holding the football for him to kick and then pulling it away, causing him to fall and fail. Although it wasn't an main "character," he considered the large tree "one of the series' major set pieces," and he used it as a sentient antagonist to explain where all of Charlie Brown's kites went: "I observed that when a kite becomes caught in a tall tree, it is irretrievable and gradually disappears over a period of several weeks. Now obviously the kite had to go someplace, so it seemed to me that the tree must be eating it." This resulted in a series of storylines which turned into a violent battle between Charlie Brown and the local "kite-eating tree," representing the inescapable frustration in Charlie Brown's life. Lucy suggested that it ate kites and "dirty blankets," which was probably wishful thinking on her part! Magic Light activates when connected to a Keepsake Power Cord (sold separately), to provide continuous light. The ornament can stand on it's own, or be hung from the top, and is dated on the underside of the base.
