A Creature Was Stirring Miniature Ornaments

(2017-2019; 2023 SPECIAL EDITION)

A Creature Was Stirring turns a famous quiet moment from “'Twas the Night Before Christmas” into a busy miniature mouse story. The core series contains six numbered scenes released from 2017 through 2019. Because six pieces appeared within three calendar years, the number—not the year alone—determines their order.

A Creature Was Stirring #1 began the run in 2017 and established a mouse-sized household world. Ordinary furniture, food, fabric, and Christmas objects become large parts of the setting when the central character is so small. More than one chapter could arrive during a single year, giving the collection a quicker storybook pace than an annual series that advances only once each Christmas.

The 2019 number 6 is clearly labeled “and Final.” That wording closes the numbered story. A later mouse scene cannot become number seven simply because it looks related. The compressed schedule is one of the line's most unusual facts: collectors could complete six connected chapters while the visual style and tiny domestic setting were still fresh.

Hallmark returned to the finished idea with the 2023 special-edition repaint. New color changes the appearance of an existing design, but it does not reopen the numbering. The repaint belongs beside the six-piece run as an afterword.

The series succeeds through scale. A crumb can become a meal, a chair can tower over the mouse, and a bit of ribbon can create a complete action. Exact numbers keep the story in order, while the 2023 repaint shows how Hallmark can revisit a closed miniature world without changing its ending.
