1979 Grandmother - Damaged Box
1979 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament
QX2527DB
This 1979 Hallmark Christmas Ornament is part of the Tree-Trimmer Collection and features a golden glass ball, with silver cap and transparent plastic sleeve, printed with poinsettias and chickadee "chicks." The message panel is bordered by a garland of greenery, berries, pinecones, evergreen branches, and red leaves, showing two little birds perched on opposite sides, with the sentiment, in cursive: "Grandmothers bring happy times--time and time again!" The other panel has a thin green border with flower arrangements in each corner, and five chicks decorating a basket of red poinsettias with berries and evergreen branches. Some are flying and some are perched, next to and under, the year "1979," in the top right corner. The ornament is also dated on the copyright, printed on the bottom along the edge of the plastic sleeve. It's packaged in the original "window" box, viewable from all sides, so you can see the entire bulb.
Disclaimer: As with many older glass ball ornaments, it may have developed "age spots," which is normal with older ornaments.
Fun Fact: Chickadees are very smart and undergo a biological miracle, every Autumn, when their hippocampus, the brain's spatial memory center, swells almost 30%, so they have the ability to recall the exact location of a seed they stashed. Then, when Spring comes and food is plentiful again, this part of their brain shrinks back to normal size, to conserve energy. They also have a warning system that other birds species, such as titmice and nuthatches, have learned to listen to and they'll often form mixed flocks, led by chickadees.
