1980 The Night Before Christmas, Ambassador - Damaged Box
1980 Hallmark Ambassador Ornament
QX11HDB
This 1980 Hallmark Christmas ornament was released by their subsidiary, Ambassador, as part of The Holiday House Collection, and is a rare find for collectors of this box/brand. Ambassador was a division of Hallmark Cards, Inc. from 1979-1982, and approximately 50 different ornaments were sold in select stores, such as Ben Franklin, Woolworth's, card shops, drug stores and supermarkets. Today, they stand as rare treasures, with their elegant designs and limited availability adding to their collectible allure. The ornament features an unbreakable, white satin ball with two green panels printed on the plastic sleeve. One shows a furry, white mouse asleep in a red and white fuzzy slipper. The slipper is meant to look like a sneaker and is surrounded by red and green-wrapped Christmas presents, candy canes, holly and mistletoe. Starlight mints are scattered on the floor, and the caption above reads, "...not a creature was stirring...." The opposite panel is dated in the center with "Christmas 1980," in cursive, encircled with a garland of evergreen branches, holly clusters, mistletoe and Christmas presents with candy interspersed. Four little red birds are perched around the presents and in the greenery. The copyright is dated and printed on the plastic sleeve, in between panels, in black. The ornament is packaged in the original window box, viewable from all sides, so you can see the entire bulb.
