NOTE: This product code was previously used by Hallmark for the 1978 PEANUTS Caroling ornament, which is why we have added the "B" on the end of this 1982 product code.
This 1982 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament is an unbreakable, cream-colored satin ball with clear plastic sleeve featuring the sentiment: "A Father's love brightens the season." Decorated with wood relief carvings, painted in earth tones, the message panel has a landscape view of a flock of male and female mallard ducks flying over a frozen pond next to a portrait of white rabbits in the reeds. The panel dated with "CHRISTMAS 1982" shows a buck standing in snow in the forest and a portrait view of two chickadees perched on snow-covered fir branches. The ornament is packaged in the original "window" box, viewable from all sides, so you can see the entire bulb.
Fun Fact: The woodworking technique of relief carving cuts 3D images into a flat panel to appear as if they "rise from the surface". Low or "bas-relief" has a shallow depth, whereas high relief has a bold sculptured projection, and deep relief carvings create strong shadows and full form. Pierced or undercut reliefs actually have cuts through the panel and/or angling for a more dramatic perspective.
Linda Sickman, one of the original Hallmark Keepsake Ornament artists, started working for Hallmark in 1963 and joined the Keepsake division in 1975. She's best known for her work with pressed tin, folk art, and the series, "Rocking Horse Memories," which ran from 1981-1996. Her most sought-after pieces include the Winter Angel and Americana-style Santa and Mrs. Claus figures.
