This 1983 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament features a little white mouse happily asleep on a pale blue pillow, covered by a sky blue and white polka-dotted blanket, inside a white and red tennis shoe that has white string for shoelaces. The ornament can sit on it's own or be hung from the top and the dated copyright is on the back of the shoe. It's packaged in the original full color box.
Fun Fact: Shoes are especially tempting for mice, not only because they're dark and insulated but because they smell of sweat and salt! Mice identify this human smell with comfortable shelter and consistent food supply. As nocturnal animals, they seek "micro-climates," to stay warm and hidden while sleeping during the day. Materials inside footwear, such as cotton, fleece, and foam retain heat well, which helps them conserve their body's energy. They often use shoes for storages, as well, filling the toes with gathered treasures, like pet food, birdseed, or bits of random materials used for insulation.
