This 1984 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament is a clear acrylic piece with beveled edge and frosted sunken relief of Mary holding the baby Jesus. The image is framed within a metallic-gold foil circle and is captioned in metallic-gold with the sentiment, "All is calm, all is bright..." The Madonna wears evergreen branches in her hair and a dove with a twig of mistletoe rests on her right hand, as she looks down at the child lovingly. The ornament is encased in a clear plastic shell, molded for protection, and packaged in the original box with open "window" on the front and a die-cut in the shape of the ornament on the back.
Fun Fact: Intaglio sunken relief art was widely used for signet rings and wax seals, as the sunken carving makes a raised, positive impression.
Don Palmiter, the artist, began his career with Hallmark in 1967, right out of high school, and became part of the Keepsake division in 1987, before retiring in 2023. His lifelong passion for cars and popular car-themed ornaments earned him a nickname: "The Car Guy."
