Selected by Lionel as the centerpiece of its Centennial celebration, the first Hudson 700E was introduced in 1937. A marvel of its time, the 700E was a highly detailed die-cast replica in perfect O scale. The New York Central's J-Class 4-6-4 Hudson, with its classic steam locomotive styling, was an ideal choice for the landmark Lionel model. It is said to have been the favorite of Lionel founder Joshua Cowen. It was certainly the pride of the NYC fleet, pulling both passenger cars and freight along its namesake river. This dated, commemorative Keepsake Ornament is formed of die-cast metal. The combination of finishes, including the 22 K. Gold Flash, echo the markings of the 700E J-1E Hudson Steam Locomotive being issued by Lionel in an elaborate Centennial set. The case for the train is pictured.
