Family Game Night
Family Game Night Hallmark Ornaments
(2014-2023)
Family Game Night is a ten-piece numbered series released from 2014 through 2023. Its subject is not one repeated board or mascot, but the family ritual of opening a game and playing together. Hallmark changes the ornament’s shape and details to match each licensed title, making the run a small history of games found in American closets and living rooms.
2014 Sorry!, Family Game Night #1 opens the series with the game’s colored pawns and race-back-to-home idea. 2015 Monopoly, Family Game Night #2 shifts to property, money, and the visual language of the famous square board. The annual number links the ornaments, while the pieces, lettering, and board art prevent one game from looking like another.
2016 Candy Land, Family Game Night #3 brings in a child’s color-path game and its candy landscape. 2017 Clue, Family Game Night #4 moves to mystery, suspects, rooms, and clues, replacing bright fantasy with the mood of a whodunit. 2018 Chutes and Ladders, Family Game Night #5 returns to a simple race, but its numbered path, climbs, and slides create a different kind of movement from Sorry!
Some entries resemble a game box, while others lift pawns, cards, dice, spinners, or board sections into three dimensions. Those choices can point to the visual edition Hallmark remembered, since familiar games have changed artwork over time. The official count ends with number ten in 2023. Later ornaments based on tabletop games may join a game-themed display, but they do not become number eleven unless the Family Game Night title says so.
The series also crosses age levels. Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders welcome young players, while Monopoly and Clue ask for more reading, planning, or deduction. Placed in order, the ornaments recall how family game choices change as children grow.
