1982 Tin Soldier
1982 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament
QX4836
This 1982 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament features a toy soldier, made of pressed tin, saluting with his left hand and holding up his rifle with his right hand. He is wearing a long blue dress jacket that has a red trim on the collar, gold epaulettes with red fringe on the shoulders, red and gold sleeve accents, white pants with red side stripes, white gloves, black boots, and a black, military shako hat, with red badge and gold fringe on the center front. White leather belts cross his torso, as in the 18th and 19th centuries, to hold cartridge boxes, bayonets, and sidearms. The ornament hangs from a hole punched in the top of his hat and is copyrighted on the back of his belt. It's packaged in the original box with clear, plastic lid and green flocked velvet tray, molded for protection.
Linda Sickman, one of the original Hallmark Keepsake Ornament artists, started working for Hallmark in 1963 and joined the Keepsake division in 1975. She's best known for her work with pressed tin, folk art, and the series, "Rocking Horse Memories," which ran from 1981-1996. Her most sought-after pieces include the Winter Angel and Americana-style Santa and Mrs. Claus figures.
