Stock car racing runs in the Earnhardt family. Dale Earnhardt inherited a love of the sport from his father and is passing it on to his son. The Intimidator began his racing career on Carolina's red clay tracks and sped onto the NASCAR circuit in 1979 as NASCAR Rookie of the Year. In 1980, Earnhardt won the first of seven NASCAR Winston Cup championships. By August 1999, he had driven a succession of Number 3 cars in 600 consecutive Winston Cup races. Always a serious competitor, Earnhardt won his first Daytona 500 in 1998. His secret to success? Says the Man in Black, "I always think I can win any race I enter." Artist: Ed Seale
